Our story began in1981 with the setting up of the "International Piper" magazine with the late Captain John A MacLellan, former director of the Army School of Bagpipe Music at Edinburgh Castle and possibly the best known of all piping instructors.
This partnership led to the production of our Beginners Piping Chanter Kit , our flagship product and the foundation stone of our company, which has become famous the world over and is as popular as ever as an ideal introduction to the world of piping.
The Highland Bagpipe continues to grow in popularity throughout the world. I am a Firefighter of eleven years in Rock Falls Illinois. I was a
volunteer firefighter for six years before that. The Illinois Honor Guard, an organization developed by firefighters and for firefighters, provides pipers and drummers for fallen firefighters' funerals, ceremonies and events. Like many of us, I suffered the loss of a fellow firefighter and when the Honor Guard Pipers and Drummers played, I felt moved by the tribute offered to my friend, by these talented and sincere people.
One morning, I woke up with an inspiration. I announced to my wife that I was going to learn to play the pipes.

I am pleased to offer the following brands of pipes and hope the comments will offer some guidance to those trying to decide upon which to acquire. If new pipes have a slightly brighter sound it is because they are indeed new - not to worry. As with any instrument made of wood, the pipes must be played in order to settle or align its fibers which produces the 'rounder' or 'fuller' sound. Those older, excellent-sounding pipes didn't get that way by languishing in the pipe case. As the piper gets better so do the pipes! If you can find a fine old set of pipes at a reasonable price by all means buy it; if not, any one of these should be considered.

Since that time, Stuart has traveled to Scotland establishing business relationships and friends in search of broadening the EthnicSounds product line and nurturing the small business into one of the more respectable and reliable pipe shops in the Southeastern U.S. and on the World Wide Web. Since the summer of 2000, a new and most important member of the EthnicSounds team, Anne Cullinan has become head of operations, and a most valuable team member. In the future, we hope to provide a greater selection of bagpipes and hope to establish a presence at most piping events.
