Artichoke Music
Specialize in new, used and vintage acoustic and folk instruments, books, accessories, repairs; also offer a list of in-house music events. [Oregon, US] Founded and named by Judith Cook-Tucker because "artichokes are all heart" in 1971, the torch of carrying on the business was passed over the years to Jim Fuller, then Gary Haggerty, Bill Bulick & Jamie Haggerty and finally to me in 1981. I've been a folksinger and guitar lover all my life and found a home in my work life at Artichoke. My wife, songwriter and musician, Kate Power, has been an Artichoke Music customer since 1977 and joined me in the business in 1994. In fact, we make beautiful music together and if you're interested in hearing where we'll be playing next, go to live music for our giglist.
Originally located on NW 21st Street in Northwest Portland, the shop moved to 35th & SE Hawthorne Boulevard pioneering the new trend of cool shops in the Hawthorne District. In 1997 the shop relocated to a much larger space down the street to 31st and SE Hawthorne Blvd.
