Reynold Percival Williams started Williams Piano in 1907 on Robson street in Vancouver. He opened a second store on Granville street in 1956. When he wanted to retire in 1980 he sold the store to the two most experienced piano technicians in Vancouver.
In 1965, Joe Janisch opened his store at 2924 Main street in Vancouver. Joe Janisch was an unassuming Austrian perfectionist who, by the end of his career had built an admirable reputation as a piano technician and supplier of instruments to the universities and music schools in the city. Eventually, when Joe Janisch succumbed to illness, Williams Piano House purchased Janisch Pianos and renamed it Janisch-Williams Piano House.

Farley's House of Pianos began with Tim Farley in 1962. By the early '70s the growing business was located on Madison's East Wilson Street. There the Farley family and their dedicated staff earned their reputation as highly skilled piano technicians and rebuilders. After tremendous growth the Farleys moved the business to 6522 Seybold Road on Madison's westside in 1997. Farley's has 11,000 square feet of display space for fine new and used pianos. The restoration workshop covers another 3,000 square feet of space, and even the warehouse is full of pianos.
