I am pleased to offer the following brands of pipes and hope the comments will offer some guidance to those trying to decide upon which to acquire. If new pipes have a slightly brighter sound it is because they are indeed new - not to worry. As with any instrument made of wood, the pipes must be played in order to settle or align its fibers which produces the 'rounder' or 'fuller' sound. Those older, excellent-sounding pipes didn't get that way by languishing in the pipe case. As the piper gets better so do the pipes! If you can find a fine old set of pipes at a reasonable price by all means buy it; if not, any one of these should be considered. Bill Gilchrist owner and founder of Gillie Co.
